The Janice Woodside Foundation

A Legacy of Strength, Learning, and Love

The Janice Woodside Foundation (JWF) was created in loving memory of Janice Woodside, a devoted mother, lifelong learner, educator, and breast cancer warrior whose life and legacy continue to shape the heart of this work.

This foundation exists to honor Janice’s journey and to ensure that single mothers facing breast cancer are never left to walk the path alone.

Our Why

A breast cancer diagnosis affects far more than the individual; it reaches into families, motherhood, mental health, and identity. As a therapist and daughter of a mother lost to breast cancer, Jasmin Wilson understands this reality not only professionally, but personally.

The Janice Woodside Foundation (JWF) was established to:

  • Provide emotional and therapeutic support for single mothers diagnosed with breast cancer

  • Reduce isolation during diagnosis, treatment, and early survivorship

  • Honor the strength of women who carry both motherhood and illness at once

  • Memorialize Janice’s life through service, advocacy, and healing

This foundation informs and supports the specialized breast cancer–focused therapy services offered through Wilson Wellness & Consulting.

About Janice

Janice Woodside was born in 1972 and lived a life defined by curiosity, perseverance, and growth.

She had a deep love for learning—immersing herself in history, documentaries, museums, and education. At her healthiest, wellness was a daily practice: she worked out twice a day, took wheatgrass shots, and explored holistic health through herbs and natural care.

Janice became a mother at 17 and, after stepping away from high school, returned years later to earn her GED. Her determination led her to achieve both a Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans and a Master’s degree from Tulane University. She went on to teach for five to six years, impacting countless lives through education.

After experiencing profound loss, the deaths of her Mom and Dad just a year apart, Janice struggled with depression. Seeking healing and a better quality of life, she moved from New Orleans to Durham, North Carolina, pursuing new opportunities and fresh beginnings.

Just months after her move, Janice was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer, Stage 3B—a rare and aggressive form of the disease. A rash she had noticed earlier went unaddressed due to fear, until a trusted friend encouraged her to seek medical care and stood beside her at the appointment that changed everything.

Janice was diagnosed at 38 and passed away shortly before her 41st birthday.

She was the youngest of her siblings, and a mother whose impact continues to be felt deeply.

A Daughter’s Commitment

Jasmin Wilson, Janice’s daughter, carries her mother’s legacy forward through both therapy and advocacy. As the founder of Wilson Wellness & Consulting and a therapist specializing in trauma-informed care, Jasmin brings professional expertise shaped by lived experience.

JWF reflects a deeply personal truth:

Healing does not stop when treatment ends, and motherhood does not pause for illness.
